Bringing together artists from diverse geographies - Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, South Africa and Mozambique - this exhibition weaves multiple voices and artistic languages to explore freedom not as a fixed idea but as a living, shifting condition shaped by history, memory, and desire. In a country marked by the revolutionary April of 1974 and the symbolic blossoming of its democracy, “…e o perú fugiu!” takes the legacy of the Carnation Revolution as a starting point - opening up broader conversations about freedom in the present moment. Here, freedom emerges not only as resistance to oppression, but as a poetic space for imagination, an intimate gesture, an act of care, or a shared horizon still in the making. This exhibition invites visitors to move through stories of emancipation and struggle, migration and belonging, of silence and voice - narratives that resonate far beyond Portugal’s borders, echoing urgent debates across the world about the right to exist, to move, to speak, and to create. Above all, “…e o perú fugiu!” is an invitation to pause - to question what it means to be free today. How do we care for freedom, protect it, and reinvent it - for ourselves, and one another?Inês Valle -This exhibition is part of the 2023–2026 Cera Project’s program, Territories, Resistance, Freedom. SANCHO [2024] QUINTA DA FONTE [Lisbon, Portugal] A commissioned art project by Cushman&amp;Wakfield for a MEAG building at Quinta da Fonte ANA VELEZ - JOANA GOMES - MARIA SASSETTI A commissioned art project by Cushman&amp;Wakfield for a MEAG building at Quinta da Fonte. D. Sancho I, the second king of Portugal and son of D. Afonso Henriques, continued the work of expanding the kingdom and consolidating its territory. The seat of his reign was in Coimbra, from where originates the Cross of D. Sancho I, inevitably linked to the recent kingdom identity affirmation. This golden piece, combines different dimensions: historical, symbolic, political, religious, identity-related, material, and artistic. On the back side of the cross are the four apocalyptic creatures - eagle, lion, ox, and angel - symbols of the Evangelists. In the center is the Mystic Lamb. For the D. Sancho I building, the animals that appear on this iconic cross are represented in cut aluminum plates and a neon. Each animal is intervened with acrylic paint following references from art history and medieval bestiaries, and displayed in an organic composition. DINIS [2024] QUINTA DA FONTE [Lisbon, Portugal] A commissioned art project by Cushman&amp;Wakfield for a MEAG building at Quinta da FonteANA VELEZ - JOANA GOMES - MARIA SASSETTI A commissioned art project by Cushman&amp;Wakfield for a MEAG building at Quinta da Fonte. King D. Dinis, praised for his vision in the administration of the Kingdom, land distribution, promotion of agriculture and founding of rural communities, became known by the epithet, the Farmer. An undisputed king, he enjoyed a period of prosperity during whic the country developed considerably. Part of the King’s legacy is the construction and protection of Pinhal de Leiria. Initially intended to drain a marshy area, known as “paúls”, which extended in the western region, it also served as protection for agricultural lands from the advance of the sea. Years later, it was from Pinhal de Leiria that was extracted the wood used in the construction of caravels, allowing the great expansionist period known as the Discoveries. As a way to praise this legacy, we choose Pinhal de Leiria as our main reference for the art piece, composed by 22 pieces of cut aluminum displaced in the shape of the ancient pine forest. Upon these forms, interventions by the three artists were made, using acrylic paint, self-adhesive vinyl and gold leaf. This organic and three-dimensional cluster, featuring pine needles, pine nuts and pine cones, was combined with a neon light and a coin.Atelier Contencioso <img width="1191" height="842" and the absence of the Self. In a society centered on image explotation, where constant comparison with what is projected on social networks inhibits and conditions the construction of identity, we suggest a visit to the ancestral home. In this mirror-place populated by shadows or projections of the self, a place of imitation and vestigial space, we discover a garden of daffodils which, flagrantly, is contemplated in a reflection. In contrast, we are faced with the house that burns or is dismantled, once a labyrinth of life, now with life on hold. JOANA GOMES - MARIA SASSETTI - XANA SOUSA Battle Royale is an expression that designates a combat involving several opponents, in a fight of all against all, in which only one will emerge victorious.The exhibition of the four artists from Atelier Contencioso, Ana Velez, Maria Sassetti, Joana Gomes and Xana Sousa, starts from the analogy between Painting, the ring and the playing field.The square of the ring or the board defines pure spaces: spaces within which everyday contingencies are suspended, establishing a new set of rules, only valid within them. In the case of modern painting, the logical conclusion of the purification process of all external constraints established its disciplinary limit in the monochrome square: its pure space. Battlle Royale is played on the fringes of all these spaces, establishing common limits.In this exhibition, we find paintings in an extended field, which incorporate non-artistic objects, materials or processes - without, however, abandoning the referential universe of Painting. In this sense, we speak of Painting as a place, territory, but also of its possibility as a combat ground and ritual space, imbued with its own liturgy. Jacarandás arrived to our city through the hands of Félix de Avelar Brotero, director of the Jardim Botânico da Ajuda, at the beginning of the 19th century. They are trees from South America, with an indigenous name from the Tupí-Guarani language. They liked our temperate climate and prospered, as in other cities around the world.
