“The story goes that, in the old days when the Tagus lapped the São Paulo square, an Irish sailor named Thomas became famous in Lisbon, thanks to a drink he brought with him and that everyone said had the magic of happiness. Just a few sips of that golden liquid and a new breath appeared in the man's soul. Afraid that the drink would run out, the men on the pier quickly spread the myth that if a woman took just one drink she would cry for the rest of her life.

Everyone believed the story except Destemida, a harlot known for her beauty and courage, who as soon as she crossed paths with the Irishman demanded her share. It is not known whether due to their excessive beauty or too many drinks of the magical liquid, a blind passion was born there. For weeks, no one saw either of them and rumors that Destemida had powers of enchantment gained momentum in the people's mouths.

Until the day when Destemida wakes up to find half of the bed empty. She went crazy. She walked naked through the streets, wearing only the colorful crochet shawl that she had worn since she was a child. She searched taverns, alleys, decks and other beds, but there was no sign of the Irishman. In desperation and without knowing which direction to take, Destemida turns into scales and feathers and goes by sea and air in search of her sailor. She walked 140 moons around the world in a vain search and when she gave up, the scales and feathers gathered in the Tagus to form a Jameson's Mamba snake that slithered through the trees on the pier until it curled up in the guesthouse room where they made love. And even today, when the snake senses a crowd, it casts an attentive glance in the hope of seeing its lover passing by.”
